Open classroom model is a system of elementary education in which instruction and activities are informally structured, flexible, and individualized. It is like educating young children in which classes and activities are informal and changed to suit each child. Open classroom model includes informal, flexible formats for learning and discussion. It is basically based on an environment structured to encourage the child to become actively involved in the learning process. Open classroom model contained no whole-class lessons, no standardized tests, and no detailed curriculum. Open classroom model values the natural development and experience of the child as the primary determinants for the appropriate curriculum and methods.

In Open classroom model Children were not assigned individual desks; they sat in cooperative small groups at tables. This Open classroom model teaches life skills necessary for success by developing the whole child – intellectually, academically, emotionally, socially, and ethically- in a nurturing and inspiring learning community. Open classroom model is basically a concept where the students with wide range of skills and interest share the same classroom under the supervision by several teachers. Now a day’s most of schools having Open classroom model, this kind of program actively involved students in the learning process. Open classroom model make the school system less reactive and more pro-active in providing ‘education for all’.
